In recent decades, the rapid growth of social media and digital platforms has significantly changed the way information is produced, disseminated, and accessed. These changes have created a series of new legal challenges affecting user rights, privacy, data ownership, and platform liability. The main research question is: what legal frameworks can ensure social media platforms’ responsibility for published content while protecting user rights? The necessity arises from the fact that existing laws in Iran and many countries are not fully aligned with technological developments, leaving gaps in defining liability and obligations of platforms. This article aims to provide a legal analysis of social media liability in cyberspace and propose a framework to safeguard user rights. The research method is descriptive-analytical based on document review, examining domestic laws, judicial precedents, and comparative analysis with international standards. Results show that platforms should share responsibility for published content between themselves and users, establish clear frameworks for content removal or correction, and adhere to transparency and accountability principles. The innovation lies in combining Iranian legal analysis with international standards and proposing a novel framework for social media liability.
